santa-coffee-2

I love coffee – Black Coffee especially. I’m going to review some nice Coffee makers I liked very much.

Bialetti Moka

First patented by Alfonso Bialetti in 1933, his company Bialetti continues to produce the same model known as the "Moka Express". I like Bialetti, because it is so classic and affordable. A brief search on the internet has indicated that prices start at around £14 for the 1 cup and rise to £59.95 for the 18 cup, which is very expensive in my opinion especially given they are little more than an aluminium kettle. I felt a little strange putting this tiny little pot directly on the burner of my stove, but it worked perfectly. Even after brewing, the handle was cool to the touch. Our pot is the smallest size, and make only a single shot of espresso at a time. There were no grounds in my cup, and the final product was pretty good. Not as strong as an espresso made with a larger machine, but acceptable nonetheless. You can see the Bialetti Moka pot in action, as I show how to make espresso with it.

Bialetti Moka Variations and brands

Moka pots are normally made of aluminium for use over an open fire, or gas/electric range. However, several electric moka pots and stainless steel stovetop espresso machines are also available.

Brikka

Brikka is a modified moka pot manufactured by Bialetti. It incorporates a locking mechanism on top of the nozzle that allows pressure to build up inside the water tank in a manner similar to old style pressure cookers. This increases the pressure of the water flowing through the coffee grounds, and increases the temperature of the water beyond the boiling point, leading to a higher extraction temperature.

Mukka Express

is modified moka pot also manufactured by Bialetti that allows milk to be frothed and mixed with the coffee during brewing. The name, ‘Mukka’, is a pun on the Italian for cow, ‘mucca’. (RRP £49.99 Red Monkey Coffee £45.99)

Bellman CX-25 Espresso/Cappuccino Machine

This Espresso & Cappuccino Coffee maker, model CX-25, is a stovetop type intended for household use only.

This machine has a charming, classic appearance with heavy 18/8 stainless steel construction, safety valve, and heat resistant bakelite.

The Espresso & Cappuccino Coffee machine makes espresso using the steam pressure method. The espresso is prepared by forcing live steam and hot water, under the pressure of boiling water, through dark-roast coffee grounds, extracting all of their pure flavor and aroma.

Getting started with the Bellman takes some getting used to, as it is a far cry from any other home unit in terms of design. The unit has a series of valves and removeable pieces which can be confusing out of the box. After determining the right capacity setting inside the boiler, and filled with an espresso grind, this unit models after the steam pressure method. It is very similar to the aluminum stovetop models, but is capable of greater steam pressure due to the tightening knob and rubber seals around the stainless steel boiler.

After two to three minutes on high heat, the Bellman is capable of even producing some crema (very rare for a stovetop unit!). However, it is not capable of producing espresso of the same intensity as a traditional pump-pressure unit. Nevertheless, mixed with some hot water, a decent Americano can be achieved!

(Bellman CX25S Stainless Steel Milk Steamer Price  $94.95)
