Signal Processing Links, Books and More Resources
General DSP Central
- dspGuru a lot of good free information on DSP was available, it covers Tutorials, HowTos, Tricks, and more.
- TechOnline provides users with a host of education resources, which range from Webinars to online courses to a research library of white papers. At the same time, the site offers engineers the chance to evaluate products using TechOnline’s patented VirtuaLab technology, the ability to sort through new products from around the Electronics sector, and insights into design approaches through the site’s Under the Hood tear down section.
Codes and ToolsBoxs
- Matlab File Exchange is the best place to find matlab codes, it has community managed rating system and updates daily.
User Groups / Forums
- comp.dsp is the Usenet newsgroup devoted to sharing information about Digital Signal Processing. Here, dspGuru provides information for all things comp.dsp.
- Matlab Newsgroup is the official forum, and if you have a question about matlab, this is the first place to ask.
- DSPRelated has a very large and strong community, it covers Matlab DSP, Audio Signal Processing, and Hardware related DSP.
- Physics Forums is another forum I found useful. LaTeX can be embedded. I found the website has member biased at maths and physics, if you have theoretical related questions, this is the best place to ask.
Online Books / Tutorials
- The Scientist and Engineer’s Guide to Digital Signal Processing By Steven W. Smith, Ph.D. is the best free DSP book available online. It has 34 chapters and can be viewed online too.
Free Online Course Materials
- The best free online course is offered by MIT Open Course Ware, it has 1900 Courses.
- Another place to find Course Materials is through Open Courseware Consortium.
- I find Youtube is very good too.
- Free Video Lectures organizes the world’s educational videos and make them universally accessible and down-loadable. If you don’t want to use Google, this is the website for you.
- The 2007-version of the course et 4235 Digital Signal Processing course has been video-taped. It is available in iTune U. The course website has slides, and additional notes. The latest et4235 hasn’t video-tapped, but slides are available here as well.
- UC Berkeley not only has iTune U but also has many of their course online at their course webcast site. e.g., EE 123 Digital Signal Processing by Avideh Zakhor, and its course website.
Online Java Applets
The applets presented on this site provide interactive demonstrations of basic DSP principles and techniques. You need a Java-enabled browser to show the applets.
If you are using Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0 (or later), Sun’s Hotjava 1.1 Browser, or Netscape Navigator 4.06 (or later), choose the Java 1.1 version of the applet (where available); otherwise, choose the Java 1.02 version.
A number of these applets have been licensed by TechOnline for use in their “Overview of DSP” course.
The source code for each applet is available for download as a zip archive. You are free to use or modify the source code for any non-commercial purpose.
Ensure Java is enabled in the settings for your browser.
- FFT spectrum analysis
- Simple aliasing demonstration
- Window function plot
- Digital filter demonstration
- FIR digital filter design
- IIR digital filter design
- DTMF tone generator
