I used to resize my pictures very quickly in Windows XP. I downloaded an addon that included the option to resize my pictures by adding the command to the right-click menu. I find this is also available in Ubuntu and I can now just right click on an image file and do to job.
You can get this by installing an extension for nautilus:
sudo apt-get install nautilus-image-converter
Alternatively, go to use System, Administration, Synaptic Package Manager. Type in your password when prompted. Click on Search and type in nautilus-image-converter. Once it has been found, right click on it and select “Mark for Installation”. Click Apply and wait for the download and installation. The file is only 279kB, so it won’t take long.
